Program Details in 2024

This immersive, transformational program includes one week of full-time participation at Stanford University, preceded by three weeks of online programming (weekend and after-hours, 12 hours per week).

​

  • ​​Location: Stanford University, California + Online.

  • Duration: 4 weeks.

  • Dates: Saturday, 13 July to Sunday, 11 August, 2024. 

    • ​13 July - 3 August 2024: Online, part-time (weekends and evenings, 12 hours per week).

    • 4 - 11 August 2024: In-person, full-time, immersive experience on Stanford campus.

Participation options for the 8-day in-person experience at Stanford include:

Program Curriculum

The curriculum is designed to provide a robust foundation in AI and machine learning (ML), integrating these with innovation, entrepreneurship, ethics, and policy to prepare participants for leadership in technology and social impact.

The program targets ambitious professionals and aspiring entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds, including those without prior programming experience. 

​

Our curriculum is structured around three pillars:

​

A. Technical: Applied AI and Machine Learning

Participants will learn to develop data science solutions and create prototypes (MVPs), with instruction tailored to various skill levels, from novices to experienced programmers. Study the application of cutting-edge AI technologies and data science to advance social good. This curriculum component includes lectures, workshops, and hands-on labs with TA's.

​

B. AI for Good Startup Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Focused on tech innovation and entrepreneurship, this segment involves team-based projects to develop AI/tech products and business ventures that contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In a team, design, develop, and pitch an AI-driven product or venture in the fields of Sustainability, Education, and Healthcare.

 

C. AI Ethics, Policy, and Human-Centered AI

 Sessions will cover human-centered AI, ethics, and global policy considerations, ensuring participants are prepared to lead AI innovation with a solid understanding of the landscape of ethical and rapidly evolving AI policy.

Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Data Science

Through our AI/ ML curriculum, participants will:

  • Understand fundamental concepts in Data Science, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence.

  • Develop a human-centered AI solution in rapidly growing fields where AI innovation meets impact, such as:

    • Tech Safety, Sustainability, Healthcare, or Education. 

  • Create a data-science prototype with TA and project advisor support.

  • Learn from AI/ ML industry experts, Stanford educators, and CS alumni.

  • Advance their AI/ ML skills with live AI labs, hands-on workshops, and office hours with TAs and project consultants.

  • Project teams are interdisciplinary. The program is designed to suit professionals with no prior coding or programming experience and programmers and data scientists.

Startup Innovation: AI for Good

Transform ideas into viable AI products or ventures with real-world impact. In this hands-on, immersive business training in tech innovation and entrepreneurship, participants will work within interdisciplinary teams of 4-5 to develop an AI product or venture in high-impact, high-growth fields such as tech safety, sustainability, healthcare, and education. 

 

Our unique curriculum blends social innovation with core business fundamentals. We empower participants with the skills to launch AI for Good startups that achieve both impact and financial success.

 

The curriculum is highly practical. You will develop an AI startup for social good in a step-by-step process.

​

  • Human-Centered Design Principals: Apply the design thinking framework to build your AI for Good prototype, which includes a data science component and a business component. 

    • ​Empathize: Engage in stakeholder mapping and brief interviews to understand the core needs and pain points.

    • Define: Formulate a clear problem statement that encapsulates user needs and expectations.

    • Ideate: Brainstorm potential solutions and innovative approaches to address the defined problem.

    • Prototype: Sketch out the MVP focusing on both AI functionality and business application, integrating Human-Centered AI considerations.​

​

  • The Startup Canvas: We empower you with the tools and frameworks to convert your idea (prototype) into a real startup pitch. You will engage in sessions, workshops, and group work that cover:

    • Product: Conceptualize and describe your product. Validate market needs. UX/ UI considerations.

    • Marketing and Value Proposition: Craft a compelling narrative and value prop. with basic competitive analysis.

    • Finance: Startup fundraising, profitability analysis, business models, and balancing impact with profitability. Discover the criteria used by VCs to select startups and evaluate profitability and social good. Learn how to align your AI innovation project with emerging tech investment trends.

    • Impact and Growth Strategy: Impact assessment, measurement, and communication. Growth, pivoting, and scaling strategy. 

  • Startup Pitch: Present your final product/ venture to a team of VCs, investors, mentors, academic experts, and tech industry practitioners.

Human-Centered AI, Tech Investment, and Global AI Policy

Intertwined within our AI/ ML and business lectures and workshops is insightful, thought provoking training on human-centered AI,  AI ethics, and policy. Delivered by the teaching team and guest speakers, including Stanford faculty and research scientists.

 

AI Modules will include a featured topic, class discussion, or invited guest lecture on AI ethics, policy, and human-centered AI. This is to ensure that our AI innovation bootcamp is curated for professionals who can lead the way forward in tech innovation that is ethical, human-centered, and grounded in social good.

How to Join

 

Step 1: Apply

The first step in enrolling for the Institute is to complete an online application. Our program is selective and immersive. Our admissions process prioritizes applicants who demonstrate motivation, commitment, desire for collaboration, and passion for AI for Good. Upon review by our admissions team, a response is provided within 2-3 weeks.

 

Step 2- Enroll

In the case of admission, applicants are provided with a registration link to complete their enrollment and payment. Earlier applicants are offered discounted rates. Spots are reserved on a first-come, first-serve basis until capacity or final deadline is reached.
