What is "AI for Good?"

This is a crucial moment in human history, one that future generations will look back on forever. This can be a good thing or a bad thing.

An optimist would argue that we are at the cusp of an economic growth revolution. AI has opened up new doors and opportunities and redefined what is possible for everyone.

Nowadays, everywhere we turn, the words "AI and innovation" seem to find us.

As the landscape of AI technological advancement accelerates by the minute, so does the need for collective action to harness AI for Social Good.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provide a comprehensive blueprint for advancing "social good." World leaders adopted them unanimously in 2015. Every industry, every field, and every person can contribute to achieving the SDGs.

The bad news, however, is that we are not on track. We are behind on over 50% of the targets and have stalled or reversed on 30% of the targets. We must accelerate progress by 2030 to avoid harming billions of people and worsening existing environmental and socioeconomic crises

According to the UN, achieving the SDGs by 2030 could create 380 million jobs and open up $12 trillion in market opportunities.

AI has the potential to accelerate progress across all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by providing scalable solutions for health, education, climate change, and more.

And this is where AI for Good comes in,

What is AI for Good?

AI for Good refers to applying AI technologies to address some of the world's most pressing challenges, aligning closely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is a comprehensive platform for AI innovators to collaborate on developing solutions that aim for positive societal and environmental impacts.

What is Human-Centered AI (HCAI)?

Human-centered AI puts human needs, capabilities, and well-being at the forefront of AI development. The HAI design approach emphasizes the need to deeply consider the impact on users, community, and society throughout every stage of the AI development cycle, leveraging interdisciplinary teams and engaging all stakeholders early and often.

What is Ethical AI?

Ethical AI emphasizes the moral application of AI technologies, ensuring they are developed and used in ways that are fair, transparent, and respectful of human rights and privacy. It involves critical considerations around mitigating biases and making AI inclusive and accessible. Learn more: UNESCO
